AUTHOR BIOGRAPHY
Stephen Scott was born in Mobile, Alabama and grew up in Fairhope, Alabama on Mobile Bay. Upon graduating from Fairhope High School in 1961 he studied Architecture, then music at Auburn, receiving a bachelor degree in music in 1965 and a masters in 1970. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and was stationed aboard the USS Damato in Viet Nam, remained in the Reserves and was called back to active duty for a year in 1990. He retired with 28 years service and attained the rank of Captain.
From 1971 to 1975 he was director of bands at Central High School in Phenix City
He continued his education in a PhD program at University of Southern Mississippi and received an MBA degree from Columbus College in 1983, He worked in training design and development for four years as a civil servant with the U.S. Army and produced training films, field manuals and instructions. He also revised instructions for the Secretary of the Navy and for the Chief of Naval Operations and produced instructions, interactive video training and correspondence courses for the U.S. Navy.
Stephen was a medical educator for over 13 years with Three Rivers Area Health Education Center in Columbus and held faculty positions at Medical College of Georgia & Mercer School of Medicine through this affiliation.
He is married to Adleyn Scott, a church organist and artist. He has four grown children and six grandchildren. Adventures with his children led to his becoming a children’s author and he loves interacting with school kids. He enjoys music performance (percussion) and creating poems, songs and stories. He also has a love for world travel, reading, drawing and painting, and story telling.
A dedicated volunteer, he is a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Columbus, and is the creator of the annual Uptown Columbus Strut the Hooch parade in Columbus.
